Joe Arnold specializes in the mountaineer's view in his paintings. His many high altitude mountain panoramas have earned him the reputation as the "plein-air artist of thin air."
Pastel and oil studies done on location often involve technical climbing and are sometimes done on the end of a rope. The larger paintings are then done in the studio from his studies.
Joe Arnold returned to Wyoming in 1980 after graduating from The University of the Arts in Philadelphia. He is the fifth of seven generations of Arnolds to live in Laramie where he and his wife Alison maintain a studio.
